A CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) tech, also known as a cardiovascular technician or cardiac catheterization technologist, is a specialized medical professional who assists cardiologists and cardiac surgeons during cardiovascular procedures. They are responsible for setting up and monitoring equipment, preparing patients for procedures, taking vital signs, and assisting with catheter insertion and removal.
In addition to assisting with procedures, CVOR techs may also be responsible for maintaining and sterilizing equipment, ordering supplies, and keeping detailed records of patient procedures and care. They must have a strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, as well as knowledge of various medical procedures and techniques used in the operating room.
To become a CVOR tech, individuals typically need to complete a formal education program in cardiovascular technology or a related field, as well as obtain certification from a professional organization such as the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Continuing education and training may be required to maintain certification and stay current with advancements in cardiovascular technology.
